Dr Mark Loane

Dr Mark Loane is an ophthalmologist in private practice in Brisbane and is a former Wallaby captain. He was the most dominant Australian rugby player of his period and played 89 games for Queensland and 29 tests for the Wallabies.

In late April 2008, Mark was announced as one of seven Rugby Statesmen for the Australian Rugby Union. Drawn from each decade since WW2, the statesmen are all former Wallabies’ captains, chosen for their standing in the game and the broader community.

Mark is passionate about providing Ophthalmic services to rural, remote and especially indigenous people. For the past 10 years Mark has coordinated and helped manage a combined Federal/State Government initiative using a hybrid Optometrical/ Ophthalmological service to provide high grade eye services to 12 communities in Cape York Peninsula.
