Kirk Pengilly is best known as the guitarist, saxophonist and principal backing vocalist of the iconic Australian rock band, INXS. He is recognised for wearing his trademark glasses. Kirk became an ambassador of The Eye Foundation in 2007. “I’ve worn glasses almost all my life. I don’t wear them because they make me look cool - I have to wear them to see clearly. In 1985, I came to within an inch of losing my sight because of glaucoma, but thankfully my optometrist diagnosed this in the nick of time. Due to how severe the glaucoma was, I was fast tracked to a pioneering Australian ophthalmologist who quickly treated my deteriorating sight, and prevented further damage to my vision.” “I’m really pleased to be an ambassador for The Eye Foundation. I look forward to helping The Eye Foundation raise funds for research, and getting the message to everyone about the importance of having your eyes checked regularly, to detect signs of deteriorating vision.” |
