In 2006, The Eye Foundation embarked on a new initiative to raise funds for four specific research projects that The Ophthalmic Research Institute of Australia (ORIA) marked as a high priority.

The Foundation has actively supported, funded and fundraised for these projects from their inception.

The Australian & New Zealand Registry of Advanced Glaucoma

GlaucomaThis research project is looking at ways to identify people at high risk of developing glaucoma so that they can be diagnosed early and treated before they start losing vision. The project is establishing the world’s largest registry of advanced glaucoma cases.

 
The Australian and New Zealand Ophthalmic (Rare Diseases) Surveillance Unit

Surveilance UnitThis project is developing and operating a population-based active surveillance system to facilitate research into uncommon ophthalmological disorders; as such the ANZOSU is open to all Australian and New Zealand ophthalmologists for conduct of research.

 
The National Indigenous Eye Health Survey (Minum Barreng Project)

Minum BarengThis project is the first of the four priorty research projects seed-funded by The Eye Foundation to be completed. It had been more than 30 years since a national survey of indigenous eye health was taken.

 
The Fight Retinal Blindness! Project

Fight Retinal BlindnessDedicated to finding the best ways to preserve sight without unwanted side effects. This research project is investigating the safety, effectiveness and possible adverse outcomes of new treatments for macular degeneration.
