Scholarship Overview

The Scholarship is being offered as part of the East Timor Eye Program (ETEP). The ETEP was established in July 2000 by Australian Fellows and is targeted at delivering eye care services to Timor Leste.

This 2011 Scholarship provides the opportunity to practice international ophthalmology, train in areas such as small incision cataract surgery and experience in-country work in East Timor, including service delivery and capacity building.

The scholarship will run for approximately 6 months and is structured in two parts:

  • a one month training period in an appropriate institution. The successful candidate will train in small incision cataract surgery and be exposed to various models of eye care delivery appropriate to the target community; and
  • a three to five month period in Dili, Timor Leste, where the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in the Eye Clinic at the Hospital Nacional Guido Valadares as well as accompany teams for delivery of out-reach services to the districts.

Who should apply?

To be eligible for consideration you must:

  • be a qualified medical practitioner;
  • have finished all the RANZCO training requirements to be eligible to progress to your final year of training; and
  • be a permanent resident or citizen of Australia.
