As part of its development work, the Eye Foundation is committed to working with other organisations to build sustainable eye health services.

The Eye Foundation currently funds funds two international sustainable development projects and has recently funded a successful Central Australian indigenous project.

Kimberley Diabetic Eye Care Program

Kimberly Diabetic Eye Care ProgramThe Kimberley Diabetic Eye Care Program (KDECP) aims to provide regular screening for people in The Kimberley region of Western Australia living with diabetes and to improve access to treatment to preserve sight. The program will build on the existing framework and contribute to the strength and sustainability of eye health programs across the Kimberley.

 
The Myanmar Eye Care Program

MyanmarMyanmar (formerly Burma) is a country of over 60 million people and has one of the world’s highest published rates of blindness.  Only 200 ophthalmologists service this population, which has a current backlog of 600,000 cataract operations.

 
The Timor Leste (East Timor) Eye Program

Timor Leste ProgramTasmanian-based ophthalmologist, Dr Nitin Verma, leads a committed team of Australian ophthalmologists and support staff who regularly volunteer their time and expertise and travel to Timor Leste. During each visit, they perform between 90-200 operations and train local eye-care teams.
